Why eat Spinach?

Background

There are different types of spinach namely savoy spinach, flat spinach, and semi-savoy spinach. Savoy spinach has crinkled leaves while flat spinach leaves are smooth in texture . In South Africa the agricultural name given for the most common spinach grown is 'Swiss chard' (depicted in the video)


The nutritional benefits of Spinach


Well for starters eating spinach is beneficial for your eye health, reduces blood pressure levels and it helps prevent cancer. Wait, there's more :)


Spinach is packed with vitamins and minerals such as:

  • Iron which helps create hemoglobin, what brings oxygen to the tissues in your body.

  • Vitamin A which strengthens your immunity.

  • Vitamin C which promotes skin health and immune function.

  • Vitamin K1 which is vital for blood clotting.

Tip : Don't over cook it. Whether you have it in a salad, smoothie or sandwich obtain as many nutrients from it as possible by eating it when nearly raw.
